Elementary teachers at Paul Cuffee Lower School voted Monday to join the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals (RIFTHP), following steps taken by their Upper School counterparts six weeks ago, the union announced Tuesday.

Paul Cuffee serves K-12 students across three charter schools in Providence. Thirty-one Lower School teachers voted to join the union and two voted against.

Educators at the Upper School, who teach high school students, voted to unionize in October

“With both the Lower and Upper Schools now united, Paul Cuffee educators are positioned to work together for meaningful improvements that benefit students, staff, and families,” said Maribeth Calabro, the union’s president, in a statement.
