Gov. Dan McKee Tuesday launched a plan to give COVID-19 shots to all teachers, school staff and child care workers who want them by the end of the month.

To do that, Rhode Island is opening municipal-run clinics dedicated to vaccinations for school and childcare employees, fulfilling a promise McKee made to the education community in the first days after he learned he would become governor.

Excluding educators who have already been vaccinated and those who will decline a shot, the Department of Health estimates that it will provide 18,500 first doses this month and then administer second doses starting in April. The teacher vaccinations will begin with shots from Pfizer, according to the state Health Department.
