AFT creates national task force to address staffing shortages in schools

This past December, the AFT established a task force to help tackle widespread educator and support staff shortages all over the country. The AFT Teacher and School Staff Shortage Task Force was created to examine causes and propose solutions for districts experiencing extreme shortages leading to pressure on educators and families that could disrupt recovery from the pandemic. “Teachers’ working conditions are students’ learning conditions,” says AFT President Randi Weingarten. “Even before COVID, nurses, guidance counselors, teachers, support staff and bus drivers were facing daunting workloads and a lack of respect. … The best way to respect and support them is to address the root causes of their stress.” Click through to read this article in full.
