Arizona teachers continue to fight for funding

  • Arizona teachers remained at the state Capitol today to protest the inadequate budget proposed by Gov. Doug Ducey and supported by the state Legislature. The proposal, which the governor signed into law this morning, includes raises for teachers and increased education funding but still doesn’t do enough for public schools. “Arizona students are paying the price for lawmakers’ abandonment of the mainstream value of a quality public education,” said AFT President Randi Weingarten in a joint statement with Arizona AFT President Ralph Quintana. “When you shortchange children’s education, you are shortchanging their future opportunities.”
