The Chicago Teachers Union announced last night that if it doesn’t have an agreement with the district by Oct. 17, it will go on strike. Last week members overwhelmingly voted to strike, and last night’s decision to set Oct. 17 as the strike date was unanimous. CTU President Jesse Sharkey said, “This is on more than just money. We are making clear to the other side and the public that the issues we care about have to do with our teaching and learning conditions in the schools.”
