AFT President Randi Weingarten arrived at Poland’s border with Ukraine on Sunday; she is the first U.S. union official to visit the region since Russia’s attacks began. Weingarten said that the purpose of this trip was to show solidarity and “to lift up that humanitarian and the education work that’s being done, teacher to teacher, union to union and across the Ukrainian-Polish border.” She hopes this trip will be “a fact-finding mission to help understand how we continue to support and assist kids and teachers and communities whose lives have been completely torn apart.” Click to read the full detail of how the AFT is helping displaced Ukrainians.
