Pawtucket School Committee Rejects Teachers’ Proposal for a 3-year contract

After meeting in executive session for nearly 3 hours, the Pawtucket School Committee voted 4-3 to reject the Pawtucket Teachers’ Alliance latest proposal for a 3-year contract.

President Ron Beaupre and his officers had negotiated previously with the labor sub-committee, which was noted that the present School Comiittee members were reluctant to join. This caused a months-long delay in negotiations- even though the PTA was prepared as early as November.

The negotiated document was actually sent to the PSC in the previous meeting, however, due to other discussed matters, it was tabled for last night’s meeting.

Sub-Committee chair Jim Chellel voted with Erin Dube and Joanne Bonollo to approve the contract. Jay Charboneau, Kimberly Grant, Marsha Fernandez, and Jennifer Carney voted to reject. From here, the document will be sent back to the labor subcommittee with the PSC recommendations, and the PTA will likely go back to negotiations and consider the 750+ members whose present contract ends next month.
