Calling on Betsy DeVos to help Puerto Rico students
- AFT President Randi Weingarten called on Secretary of Education Betsy DeVosyesterday to do her part to help residents of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. In a letter to DeVos, Randi asks that the Department of Education automatically enroll all federal student loan borrowers impacted by Hurricane Maria in an interest-free administrative forbearance for six months, or until the island is no longer considered a disaster zone, and provide all of these borrowers guidance in both English and Spanish on other benefits and aid they may be eligible for.
