WHEN GENERAL MOTORSÂ announced plans earlier this week to cut 14,000 jobs and shudder five of its car manufacturing plants, President Donald Trump threatened the company with tariffs, labor unions balked at such a decision being made during a strong economy, and the automaker’s stock took a hit.
Left largely unchecked, however, was how the thousands of K-12 students in these communities would fare, as millions in tax revenue and talent is drained from their communities, and the impact of the large-scale layoffs on mental health.
